A little background if you didn’t know before I start this post, I’ve been regularly using hair dye for around eight years and haven’t actually given my hair a break. Over time I’ve found that this negatively affects the condition of my hair quite a lot and there’s more that I have to do in order to keep my hair in good condition. I’ve come up with five different tips and tricks that I use which will help you maintain colour treated hair and keep it looking healthy!
- Invest in a good quality shampoo & conditioner – I feel like you don’t truly realise the impact a good quality organic shampoo and conditioner can have on the health of your hair. You don’t want to use any products that strip the oils from your hair and dry it out especially if you wash your hair regularly, so you want to make sure that you’re using products filled with essential oil in order to keep your hair nourished.
- Use hair oil every time you wash your hair – After towel drying my hair I use a hair treatment oil on the lengths of my hair before focusing on the ends, it helps to keep my hair nourished and soft. One of my favourites is the Josh Wood Radiant Shine Hair Treatment Oil which contains a bespoke blend of different essential oils.
- Deeply condition once a week – One of my favourite ever haircare products is the Ojon Hair Restorative Hair Treatment and I’ve been using it for over six years. It’s a rich, deeply restorative treatment which I use once a week and it gives my hair a weekly condition boost.
- Always use heat protectors when using hot styling tools – It’s not only hair dye which can damage your hair but also hot styling tools so it’s important to always use a heat protecting spray before styling.
- Regulary have trims every 6-8 weeks – The ends of your hair won’t keep the colour as well and will fade faster, it’s also the part of your hair that is the most damaged. Frazzled dead ends are an obvious sign of damaged hair and having a trim will keep the ends healthy and looking great.
They’re my five tips and tricks to maintain colour treated hair, if you have any others that you would like to share I’d love for you to leave a comment and let me know!
