The countdown to Christmas has officially started and Blenheim Palace is ready to start welcoming visitors back for its magical illuminated Christmas Lights Trail. It’s one of my favourite experiences each year and is the perfect way to start the Christmas festivities. With over a million lights, twinkling trees and Christmas music played all around as you stroll through the trail, it’s not to be missed.
The illuminated trail has a new route this year which takes you across the South Lawn and into the woods, starting with the most relaxing music and the moon and stars reflected in the lake, creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
Further along the trail Blenheim Palace becomes illuminated with a light and laser show, choreographed to a mixture of upbeat and calming music.
The tunnel of light is a favourite for many visitors, so it’s not surprising that it has made another return this year! It’s really pretty to walk through and is one of my favourite parts of the trail too.
There’s also the opportunity for families to meet Father Christmas and tell him what they’re most excited about this Christmas. After the illuminated trail we explored the Christmas market and independent street food vendors, whilst enjoying a tub of delicious hot churros with chocolate!
The Nutcracker Experience
The festivities continue within the palace where the rooms have been completely transformed to tell the story of The Nutcracker. There are lots of hidden surprises and all of the rooms are amazing, there’s so much detail that has gone into each room and there are interactive aspects too which is fun for all ages.
The transformed rooms include the glistening Land of Snow, the toymaker’s workshop on Christmas Eve and the candy-cane Kingdom of Sweets.
The palace has been transformed into a fairytale world and it was great to read the signs which explained parts of the story in each room, giving an immersive experience.
If you’ve never been to Blenheim Palace at Christmas, then it’s not to be missed. If however you like to visit every year and it has become a tradition like it has for us, you will love the new illuminated trail and The Nutcracker experience. Tickets can only be purchased online and it’s open from 19th November 2021 – 3rd January 2022.
