It’s the end of January which means you are either doing really well with your new years resolutions, or you’ve completed given up! I personally find that resolutions are unrealistic, I end up putting too much pressure on myself which results in myself becoming a big ball of stress and giving up. This is why I now always make goals instead!

What’s the difference you may ask? The biggest is the expectation of them happening straight away, when you say ‘oh I made a resolution to cut down on chocolate this year’ you’re setting yourself up for failure as when you have some chocolate you will feel like you’ve failed already. It’s much better to create a plan where you work out the steps needed to achieve your goal throughout the year.

When it comes to achieving your goals you understand that setbacks are inevitable, so you don’t give up after something goes wrong. Whereas with resolutions, when this happens it’s much easier to give up and say that you have given up as you’ve already failed.

In reality the biggest difference is the mindset, but since I have been swapping my resolutions for goals I’ve been achieving them. Last year I bought a house which has been a dream of mine for such a long time, and it finally happened! Yes there was a LOT of hard work the went into it but I worked out all the steps I needed to make as well as monthly saving goals to work towards this, and on the 31st October 2018 we picked up the keys! Those closest to us knew what we were planning however I didn’t go and share it all over social media until it happened, why you may ask? The pressure, when you put something online there’s too much pressure to make it happen, which is why my huge goal for this year I haven’t shared yet and don’t plan to until it’s close to happening.

If you’ve already given up on your resolutions why not think about your goals instead, and what you want to achieve by the end of the year. Don’t set yourself strict timeline for accomplishing them, but instead look at the progress made as you work towards this throughout the year.
