I know the title of this post sounds very clique however I couldn’t agree with it more! I’ve lived in several different houses and they have all been rented (fingers crossed for buying a house this year), and each house I’ve moved into has more like home than the last. At first I didn’t really know why, however after several house moves I realised that it’s the little personal touches that make it feel more like home. We all know that flowers bring a room to life so I’m not going to go into detail about flowers as everyone knows what a huge difference they make, instead I’m going to mention the little things that are often overlooked or not thought about.
When you move into a house the walls are generally plain and I feel like art prints on the walls of your house make the room feel more personal. As soon as I discovered Old English Company I instantly fell in love with everything on their website! They’re a stationary and giftware brand who create gorgeous hand-lettered products and I wanted to share with you a few prints I chose to display in my kitchen. Kitchens can be a hard room to decorate especially when you’re renting, however a few prints on the wall can brighten up the space. If you’re not allowed make holes in the walls then I’d recommend command strips as they cause no damage, however I wouldn’t recommend hanging anything heavy with them (some people say this is fine but I personally wouldn’t trust it).
I’m a huge macaroni cheese lover and it’s one of my favourite comfort foods so when I spotted this ‘you are the mac to my cheese’ print I couldn’t resist. The design is simple and the calligraphy is beautiful. As cheese is my favourite food I obviously couldn’t resist this calligraphy cheese print to display alongside the previous one. It’s illustrated with the hand lettered cheese names including some of my favourites such as cheddar, mozzarella and parmesan. They’re both a must for any cheese lover!
Staying with the kitchen theme I also chose this french wine print as thought it would finish the look that I was going for and kept the colours simple. You can choose from a range of different colours however I wanted to keep it fairly monochrome. All of the prints are printed onto 220gsm archival matte paper which gives crisp lines and bold colours, they also use high quality inks to prevent fading over time offering a long lasting print. I’d recommend Old English Company if you’re looking for some simple yet beautiful pieces to style your home or if you’re a stationary lover like myself as they have a range of lovely stationary pieces.
Candles and reed diffusers instantly make a house feel more homey, they make your room smell amazing create a cosy atmosphere. The Baylis & Harding Sweet Mandarin & Grapefruit candle has a lovely zesty citrus scent and is the perfect fragrance for the warmer months. I love to change candle scents depending on the season as I use them all year round, it’s a welcoming aroma and lovely to light in the evenings when snuggling up on the sofa to watch a movie or TV show.
I love to have the Fuzzy Duck Ginger and Lime reed diffuser in my bathroom as I feel it’s a room that is often overlooked. Walking into the bathroom with the aroma of ginger and lime creates a relaxing atmosphere to have a relaxing bubble bath and also keeps the room smelling amazing for when people come and visit. All guests use the bathroom so I wanted to make it feel more special and an enjoyable experience, yes this may sound strange to some of you however I personally don’t like using other peoples bathrooms so wanted to make mine as lovely as possible incase others feel the same. All you do is add the reeds to the oil and the oils get drawn up the reeds then the fragrance is released into the air, it also lasts up to 4 weeks so will leave your bathroom or room of choice smelling amazing for the whole month.
I don’t know if anyone else is the same, but I love having hand wash and lotion in the bathroom that looks luxurious and smells amazing for guests when they visit. Baylis & Harding products are very affordable and their designs are luxurious, however I didn’t realise that they are available with a little tray which looks very elegant and perfect to style in your bathroom. Sweet Mandarin & Grapefruit is one of my favourite scents that they have released however I love to try out different scents when they release new and limited edition products such as this rose prosecco fizz luxury hand wash.
I wanted to quickly mention these luxurious and beautifully scented shower cremes! I know they don’t make a huge difference in making your house feel like a home however I’m not a huge fan of the bathroom in my current house and these make my showers more relaxing and refreshing. Let me know if you have any similar products in your house to give it a more homey feel and if you have any other tips!

It can be so difficult to make your house feel like a home, especially when you move a lot! I can definitely feel you on this. Prints and cards are such a good idea, you can find so many cute ones these days and it’s much more practical than actually paintings in bigger frames. I would also add photographs to the list!
