Most of the bags in my collection are on the smaller side as I love a small bag and they’re so much easier to wear day to day. However, once I fell pregnant I started thinking a bit more practically about what I’d actually need from a bag going forward.
My Louis Vuitton Neverfull has always been my go to for when I need to carry more and I’ve had it for over year years. It’s very durable and still in such great condition, but I wanted another larger option instead of reaching for the same bag.
I finally decided on the OnTheGo MM in Bicolour Monogram Empreinte Leather. It has been on my wishlist for ages and I chose the Tourterelle and Crème colourway because it’s different to everything else I own and I knew it would go with pretty much anything.
I already knew I wanted another bag in Empreinte leather because my Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis is in the Empreinte leather too and it’s one of the most hardwearing bags I own. It’s such a durable leather which gave me a lot of confidence going for it in a much bigger bag.
One of my favourite things about the OnTheGo is that it has the shorter top handles which look lovely when you’re carrying it by hand or over your arm, but it also comes with longer straps tucked inside so you can wear it on your shoulder too. A big bag inevitably gets heavy once it’s full and I don’t always want that weight in my hand. Being able to move it straight onto my shoulder makes such a difference, especially when I need my hands free.
I think I’ll appreciate this even more as time goes on. When my hands are full of everything else a toddler comes with, I can just put it over my shoulder rather than carrying it by the handles. I also love that I don’t need to bother attaching a separate strap, both options are already built in so I can switch depending on what I’m doing.
Everything I normally carry goes in without having to carefully arrange it to make it fit and there’s still plenty of room left over for anything extra. The MM is a big bag but it doesn’t feel too big, anything larger would have been more than I actually needed and would have been less practical.
I can’t help comparing it to my Neverfull since they’re now my two main larger bags, but honestly, they’re completely different. The Neverfull is lightweight, holds an unbelievable amount, it’s kind of bag I can throw everything into without a second thought.
The OnTheGo feels more structured and smarter. The Empreinte leather gives it a totally different feel and having both handle options means I can carry it with the top handles, or switch to the shoulder strap when I need it to be more practical. My Neverfull is still an amazing everyday bag, but at the moment the OnTheGo is the option I reach for more often.
The open top is worth mentioning as on one hand, I love it. Everything’s so easy to get to, no fiddling with zips or flaps. On the other, it does mean being a bit more careful with your belongings. I’m not sure I’d take it into central London or on holiday, purely because an open top can make you more of a target for pickpockets. There is an internal zipped pocket for anything you want to keep more secure which is useful.
Overall I’m in love with this bag and it’s so nice to have another big bag in my collection.
