If you’re a handbag lover like me, you know that there’s nothing quite like the feeling of carrying your favourite bag. The Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis is one of the most popular bags at the moment and I’ve had mine for over two years, so thought it was about time I did a review and an update on the wear and tear.
The Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis is available in both monogram canvas and empreinte leather, as soon as I laid my eyes on the empreinte version in scarlet red I fell in love. Empreinte leather has a subtle, embossed texture that gives it a sophisticated and elegant look. It’s created by pressing the leather with a design pattern that creates a three-dimensional effect, giving the leather a rich, tactile feel. This type of leather is made from high-quality calfskin leather that has been treated with a special coating to make it more durable and resistant to wear and tear.
Louis Vuitton like many luxury brands has been known to increase its prices on a yearly, sometimes twice-yearly basis. At the time of writing this article the Pochette Metis in Epi Leather costs £2030, with the Monogram Canvas version slightly more inexpensive at £1830. There used to be a bigger price gap between Louis Vuittons leather and canvas products with canvas products usually a lot more inexpensive, but they have been gradually closing this gap over recent years.
Design & Versatility
Moving onto the design, the Pochette Metis is a compact shoulder bag with a sleek and stylish appearance. The bag has a flap closure with a gold-tone hardware clasp, which is both elegant and practical.
One of the things I love about this bag is its versatility. It can be worn as a crossbody thanks to the adjustable leather strap, which is also removable. This bag also has a top handle, so you can carry it like a handbag if you prefer.
Size & Capacity
Now, let’s talk about the size and storage capacity. The Pochette Metis is a compact bag, but it’s surprisingly roomy inside. It has a main compartment with a flat pocket and a zipped pocket, as well as an external zipped pocket on the back. This makes it perfect for carrying all your essentials, including your phone, wallet, keys, and even a small notebook or tablet. The bag measures 9.8″ x 7.5″ x 3.5″, which is a great size for everyday wear.
Wear & Tear
This has been my most used bag over the past two years due to its versatility and durability. However, I have noticed small areas of wear and wear, not on the leather itself but on the gold hardware. The clasp at the front has become quite scratched from closing the bag, but this does not bother me as you have to look very close to see the fine scratches all over it. You can buy small plastic covers to protect the gold hardware on your bag if this concerns you, but it’s not something I do.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis to any handbag lover looking for a stylish and versatile everyday bag. It’s the perfect size for carrying all your essentials, and the adjustable strap allows you to wear it comfortably. This is my first empreinte leather bag, but will definitely not be my last. I like that the design is more subtle in comparison to the monogram canvas, and has a more luxurious feel. I feel that it’s worth the investment for a piece that will last for years to come!
