If you didn’t know I moved home at the end of July to a new city and house, as it’s a new build it’s taking me quite a while to decorate as everything is very plain. However this is also a good thing as it means I can decorate however I want, although it has been taking me a little longer as the character has to be built from scratch. My main focus at the beginning was buying all of the furniture and then decorating downstairs, so the upstairs of the house was put to one side whilst the rest was being decorated and having personality added.
As you can see in the before photo, once I had purchased all my bedroom furniture it looked a little plain and lacked personality. It was perfect timing that I received an email from Hillarys challenging me to makeover my bedroom and have personalised advice from interior stylist Joanna Thornhill. I was given a £100 budget and was excited to see how much I could transform my room. Before I started I decided on a rough colour scheme of blue, red and beige.
The first piece of advice I was given was to add a single large item above the bed to make the space feel less sparse. I found this really pretty wooden quote to go on the wall from Marks & Spencer which says “fall in love with as many things as possible”. It’s quite girly and I feel like the wood adds a little bit more personality to the room.
Next I was advised that my bedroom lamps were very small and that something bolder and a little bit unexpected, such as an anglepoise-style lamp would look striking. I looked around quite a bit for a lamp however when I spotted this one in Dunlemn Mill I fell in love, it was the perfect size and I loved the duck egg blue colour. Joanna also suggested to add a couple of mismatched accessories either side so I added photo frames, a reed diffuser, yankee candle and my cute little penguin from DCUK which I’ve had for quite a while.
The last piece of advice was to dress the bed to add warmth and visual interest, also to use the neutral bedding as a blank canvas to layer cushions and add a chunky knit throw. As it’s coming up to winter I opted for a red throw as I felt it made the room more cosy as well as some mismatched cushions which I thought went quite well together. I loved how the squirrel cushion matched my lamp.
I’m so happy with the makeover and my bedroom now feels so much more like a home instead of just a house. You can check out all the other bloggers who took part in The Big Bedroom Makeover to give you inspiration on how you can makeover a room on a budget.

It’s from ASDA! :)
The thing we notice the most is how the colour you added to your room changes everything! This is a cool makeover, you can do so many nice things with £100 – no need to spend tons and tons to have a personal and lovely room!
My favourite things are the cushions, especially the bunny one. So cute!

This is so fun! There was a time I re-did my room every other year. Now I finally feel like I have it how I like it…for now! I really like seeing how others do there own spaces because it says a lot about how that persons mind works and what makes them at peace. Such a lovely read. :)
