I love the summer and everything that comes with it from eating ice creams by the seaside and enjoying weekend BBQs, to walks by the river with my dog Luna. When the sun is shining I want to be outside all the time, however having lots of day trips can work out expensive over time. Today I wanted to share a few of my favourite free things to do in the summer which will hopefully give you some inspiration!
- Picnics – It’s well know that there’s nothing I love more on a warm summer’s day than filling up my picnic basket with food and going to millets farm. It’s an inexpensive day out and you get the opportunity to make the most out of the beautiful weather.
- BBQs – Another food related activity! Everyone loves BBQs and you could ask everyone to bring some food along with them to share, it’s a great way to get everyone together.
- Local Attractions – I’m lucky enough in Oxford to be surrounded by a lot of free local attractions with my favourites being the Pitt Rivers Museum and Millets Farm. Why not have a look at what free attractions there are around your city, you might even discover some new ones that you didn’t know about before!
- Events and Festivals – Instead of only looking at what attractions are in your area, why not have a look at any local events and festivals? In Oxford we often have events throughout the year but especially in the summer, and there are quite a few free festivals that take place too.
There are lots of free things that I love to do in the summer however they are my favourites and I do these every single summer. However you could also go and feed the ducks by the river, invite your friends round to relax together in your garden or find a new hobby to start. The list is endless! If you have anything that you love to do in the summer that’s free let me know in the comments down below as I’d love your ideas too!

There are so many events and festivals in the summer, it’s definitely good to check your local area to see what’s on! Also, having long walks in the park is amazing and can be a great way to spend an afternoon, with company or on your own!
