Self Care Sunday

Just like everyone else I’m always on the go, there’s always something to do and with the hustle and bustle of life it can be easy to forget to slow down. As I’m self-employed it means that weekends normally involve doing little bits of work, so I make sure I have a self care evening every Sunday to unwind from the previous week and prepare for the new week ahead. It’s important to take time every week to do the little things that make you feel happy, calm and relaxed. This could be anything from taking time to meditate and practise mindfulness, to relaxing in the bath with a facemask, or spending some time with furry friends and loved ones.

The health benefits of self care are huge and I notice a difference in my anxiety as well as being more productive in the week ahead, however there are also things I like to do during the week too. Here are some great ways to squeeze in a little more self care each week:

  • Exercise – The health and mood boosting effects of exercise are well known, however it can be hard to incorporate this into your lifestyle. You don’t have to go to the gym to get exercise, even gentle walks or stretching will help get your blood flowing which is one of the reasons I love walking my dog Luna every day. It’s important to find exercise you enjoy, so why not try a new class at the gym, or try an at-home workout on YouTube. One of my favourite fitness YouTubers is Chloe Ting so I’d recommend her if you’re looking for a new challenge.
  • Mindfulness – Mindfulness is a simple form of meditation which encourages you to focus on the present moment instead of any worries or stresses you may have. This is a great way to bring a little more calm into your day and can be done in as little as 10 minutes. There are plenty of apps and books available which can help you develop routines and techniques to cope with feelings of anxiety or restlessness.
  • Being Healthy – One of the most important ways to show yourself a little love is by keeping healthy. It’s important to eat a wide range of healthy, nutritious foods and there are plenty of ways to sneak more fruits and vegetables into your meals. Pinterest is one of my main sources of inspiration when it comes to cooking and if you follow me on Pinterest you will know that I’m a little obsessed!

They are some simple ways to incorporate self care into your daily routine. Let me know in the comments if you have any other tips that you would like to add!
