Tivoli Gardens | Second-Oldest Amusement Park in the World

Walking into Tivoli Gardens is like Narnia, you feel like you’ve been transported to a magical land. Nested in the middle of Copenhagen, Tivoli Gardens is the second oldest amusement park in the world. I’ve been to Copenhagen many times before, however this was my first visit to Tivoli and it’s so much more than an amusement park and even though it’s quite compact it’s larger than anticipated.

Upon arrival you notice the magnificent attractions, beautifully manicured gardens, floral displays and whimsical structures. Strolling around you notice that the rides and attractions cater for everyone, there’s smaller rides for young children as well as a variety of different rides from Rutschebanen which is one of the world’s oldest wooden roller coaster, to The Demon which is a roller coaster for the adrenaline junkies with the option of adding a virtual reality experience simulating a flight through China along with demon and dragon encounters, to The Flying Trunk which is a magical journey through 32 fairy tale scenes featuring some beloved classics from Hans Christian Andersen.

After enjoying a few rides it was time to head to the Pantomime Theatre which is an open-air theatre for the comedic ballet performance. The performers were all very talented and I loved the mixture of humour with beautiful ballet movements. The show itself lasted around 30 minutes which I was pleasantly surprised as originally thought that it would only be on for a few minutes. There were different scenes and costumes keeping the audience entertained throughout.

There’s a really sweet little train that takes you around the whole of the amusement park which was a lot of fun and made me realise that I had missed the beautiful lake and chickens! On the lake you can go on a little boat and the whole area is beautiful, everywhere you look is so picturesque. A short walk away were the chickens which at first seem off for an amusement park, however the place is so quirky and magical that they seem to fit in perfectly.

I could hear the orchestra playing in the distance so headed of towards the main Tivoli stage where the live performance could be enjoyed whilst lounging in deck chairs on the lawn. There are lots of performances that take place around the park and if you download the app it will show you a timetable for the day that you’re visiting, so you can be sure to not miss any of the entertainment.

Tivoli is a truly magical place, it’s much more than an amusement park and not surprised it was visiting many times by such fantastically creative people such as Walt Disney and Hans Christian Andersen. A trip to Copenhagen isn’t complete without spending time at Tivoli Gardens enjoying the thrilling rides, delicious food and wonderful entertainment that it has to offer. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
