Lisbon in Portugal is somewhere that I have been quite a few times, this is mainly through cruising as I love cruising and it has been a destination on many cruises that I have been on. The first thing that we did when we arrived was make our way to Praça de Comercio (Commercial Square) which is the grandest of Lisbons Squares and has beautiful traditional painted buildings all around with a statue of King José I in the centre. Walking through the Triumph Arch leads you to rows of different types of shops where obviously couldn’t resist a little bit of shopping.
We popped into our favourite ice cream shop, Amorino. There’s quite a few of these scattered across the world and it tastes exactly the same as real Italian ice cream. I decided on strawberry and pistachio whilst Aaron went for mango and pistachio, they’re honestly the most delicious ice creams we have ever had and we always pop into Amorino every time we come to Lisbon. It’s also somewhere that we always grab an ice cream from if we come across the shop in other cities too.
Lisbon has a very simple charm and is Europes second oldest capital as well as one of the worlds greatest historical cities. There are cultural treasures, characteristic neighbourhoods, heritage monuments and it has such a beautiful setting that is lovely to walk around. Even though it’s quite lively and busy it also has a very serene feel which is lovely as I feel that it is rare to have both in cities.
Heading up the hill we came across the Lisbon Cathedral as well as the Church of Nossa da Conceição. The Cathedral is the oldest church in the city and is full of history, if you ever visit I’d definitely recommend coming to this monument. The Church of Nossa da Conceição has one of the last remnants of the Manueline architectural style in the city and inside is beyond beautiful.
Lisbon is one of those cities that even though I have been multiple times, I love it just as much each time I visit. Next time I’d like to travel over the 25th of April bridge and explore what is on the other side as I haven’t visited that part before, so next time I return I’m definitely going to explore that side too as have heard it’s beautiful.
